Be Thankful...for Securly Classroom, a New Digital Learning Tool
Before we head off for a much-deserved break, we're excited to introduce a new digital learning tool for our district that many teachers have inquired about: Securly Classroom.
In one sentence:
Securly Classroom is a web portal for teachers that will enable you to see your students' browsers and control their browsing permissions as they work on Chromebooks in your class.
Prior to the pandemic, but especially during the remote and hybrid learning periods, teachers have wanted to have a better way to see what students are doing on their school devices, put specific guardrails around student web browsing activity, and help students focus while doing schoolwork on computers. Securly Classroom is an online platform that will help us to do those things and more.
We've been piloting the use of Securly Classroom in a handful of classrooms in the district, and we're pleased to say that teachers are finding a lot of immediate value in using this platform daily. It's straightforward to set up, easy to have running in the background, and it has lots of additional applications that are sure to please.
Securly Classroom is on for the whole district at this time and available to you via the WRSD Clever portal. If you're not a regular user of the Clever portal as a teacher, let this be a reintroduction to what is an immensely helpful hub for links, single sign on, and communication.
WRSD Digital Learning has put together a playlist with five tutorial videos that will take you from initial login and class setup, all the way through your first class session and beyond. As you have the time and the headspace, take the tutorials at your own pace and keep us posted with any questions you develop.
To accompany the teacher training materials, we're also providing a short slide deck with student training information. As you'll see in the videos, we highly recommend that teachers provide this training in homeroom, advisory, morning meeting, or somewhere else, to get students up to speed.
We're working with WRSD Central Office to provide a means for you to report your completion of this training into Vector/TeachPoint for PDP or in-service credit. We'll provide more updates on that soon!
We've been waiting for a tool like this for some time, and it's exciting to finally be able to share it and try it together in our 1:1 and shared device classrooms. We hope you'll take some time out to learn how this tool will help you Guide, Focus, Monitor, and Communicate in a new and powerful way this year!
